The motor is an important component of a drone for propulsion.  A slight effect on this component can lead to some repercussions.

Drones have two types of motors, the brushed motor and the brushless motor. The brushed motors are relatively cheap and don't last long due to friction.

Some of the common causes of motor 

• Motor overload 
• Overheating due to poor cooling
• Damage to winding junction and power supply wires due to motor vibration and mechanical damage

Motor overload is mainly caused by overload at the gimbals. The overload can be due to debris at the gimbals, undistributed load, or third-party accessories. To control this, do a load distribution, fix any broken hardware or keep the drone clean.

Drone motor heating up is normal. However, overheating may cause some malfunctions such as:

• Damaged motor windings: the winding causes magnetic fields that react with a permanent magnet causing propeller movement. Excess heating will cause winding deformation and affect propeller rotation. To correct this, detach elongated windings from the anchoring screw connecting the motor and frame(or install a shorter screw) or do a conductivity test.
• Desyncing motor: this is a state of an unbalanced rotation speed of motors that might cause a crash or uncontrollable flight. First, identify the affected motor. Finally, install an updated flight program or take the affected motor for service.
• Loss of magnetic strength: the magnetic field created in the windings interacts with a permanent magnet causing propeller rotation. Any effect on magnetic strength will affect drone performance. To solve this seek professional help.
• Hot drone frame: overheating sometimes causes the drone frame to be hot (not too hot that can burn but it feels hot after landing). To correct this, check phase wirings as they could be touching the frame.
• Drone motor failure: this may happen at last. The best remedy is to visit certified technicians of Good Zone for an amicable solution.

There are some other common signs that indicate a faulty. The motor can be prevented from most of these causes by keeping it clean and through keen observation. However, some defects can only be detected and corrected through an expert service.
